These original characters are Silverbird (also Silver and Jim) and Windrider (also Windy and Sue). They're from my short story "
A Gift on Awakening."
It's the prequel to a longer, episodic tale of winged beings that has long been in preparation, and which I hope to be posting here soon.
I commissioned this portrait from *
clayscence (Vanu) nearly a decade after I first drafted the story. Her beautiful sketch and color work captures the joy and love intended between these characters, and it makes me feel for the first time that they are truly mine.
Some colors and other details differ from the story, but I wanted to include choices from Vanu and me that played to her talents, as I had seen them displayed in her gallery.
